A dental implant is a small screw that looks like a thin metal rod and is used to replace lost teeth. It works like an artificial root of a tooth and it can support a single or multiple false teeth. False teeth can be crowns, or dentures, that are fixed on top of the implants. Dental implants are placed inside the bone in the areas with no teeth and later, after the healing process, the false teeth are placed.
There are several reasons to choose dental implants:
1) Some people with missing teeth don't smile with confidence and don't look other people in the eyes because they don't feel comfortable with their bad teeth or lack of them. Dental implants easily boost your self-esteem and confidence and will make you smile again without problems.
2) To replace a lost tooth with a fixed bridge we have to cut the teeth close to the gap and this can damage those teeth. With dental implants we can replace a lost tooth without affecting and damaging the teeth close to the gap.
3) Our teeth provide support to our face and as we lose them wrinkles start to appear. Dental implants make people look younger because they make those wrinkles disappear.
4) Dentures make it very difficult to eat hard food and to taste it properly. With dental implants you can enjoy your food again without hurting your gums. You can bite and talk with confidence like when you had your own teeth.
5) Dental implants also help to protect your other remaining teeth because the fewer teeth you have more pressure is exerted on those same teeth and higher is the risk of fracture.
6) The roots of your natural teeth are anchored underneath the bone that supports them. When a tooth is extracted our bone shrinks because there is nothing left for the bone to support. Dental implants help to stimulate bone growth and to maintain the bone strong and healthy.
7) Dental implants don't require any special care and don't become decayed because they are made of titanium. Clean them at least twice a day, use dental floss, a good mouthwash and see your dentist regularly, just like you do for your other natural teeth.
